Intro to Design

Intro to Design is a one year course that explores the fundamentals of graphic design through the principles of design and the use of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and the Apple iPad. The topics covered include: the essential graphic arts principles (contrast, proximity, alignment, and repetition), color theory, typography, logo design, and page layout, just to name a few. By the end of this course the students will be pro cient in the Adobe graphic design software and be able to apply the design principles they have learned.

No prerequisite.

Digital Media

Digital Media is a one year course that combines digital design, digital art, and at the end of the year, digital lmmaking. This class provides the student with the education they need to create functional and creative digital media designs.
The programs covered are
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Apple iMovie, including their applications and use in digital media production and editing. This course will serve students i nterested in an art class using digital medium.

The Digital Media curriculum is project-based. Considerable attention will be given to the development of visualization skills – centered around the study of art and including the Elements of Design: Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Space and Value and the Principles of Design: Unity, Harmony, Variety, Contrast, Movement, Balance, Emphasis, Repetition, and Rhythm.
No prerequisite.


Yearbook is a one year course that is devoted to the production of the school yearbook and the development of photography, journalism, and design skills. All students are required to have their own digital camera. Students should expect to learn all phases of yearbook production: layout, photography, writing, editing, and publicity. Good writing and grammar skills are essential to success in this class, as writing captions and short stories are an ongoing requirement. Students will learn to use computer design software (Adobe Photoshop and Jostens Yearbook Avenue) to produce the book. All students are expected to be responsible, self motivated, and prompt in meeting deadlines.

Prerequisite: B or better in High School English, Previous Art or Graphic Design course, Instructor Approval. (Students can take course more than once.)
