Tinker Cottage provides the perfect blend of education and recreation to all its visitors. For years, it has offered educational services and it is a regularly visited spot for field trips. With programs such as Get Your Hands on History and An American Adventure, students are able to explore the museums hands-on exhibits and discover items that were part of everyday life 100 years ago. Other highlights include of Nels' struggles in his native Sweden and in the New World, authentic Swedish artifacts, and a Swedish folk song which paints a fantastic picture of life in the New World.
However, its impact on Rockford is not limited to educational purposes. Tinker has also brought forth many different people, from all aspects of life, to share and enjoy each other’s company. For instance, an ice-cream social is often held, and at this event, many people join together and are able to get to know people they would not have been able to had it not been for Tinker Swiss Cottage.
